Marie Banich, Ph.D., is a professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of Colorado at Boulder and in the Department of Psychiatry, at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center, in Denver. Her fields of professional interest are cognitive neuroscience and human neuropsychology. Her particular expertise is with regards to the human brain systems that are involved in what are known as "executive processes". Executive processes include planning, decision-making, prioritizing, dealing with novelty, projecting into the future, and attending to important information while ignoring irrelevant information. Her work in the network focuses on how these abilities develop during adolescence and the implications that this developmental pattern has for the juvenile justice system.
